Nightshade-Free Tomato-Less AIP Sauce

No nightshades? No problem! If you thought that the Paleo Autoimmune Protocol was hard, think again! This vibrant Tomato-Less sauce will make you forget about tomatoes and peppers. Does it taste exactly like tomato sauce? No. But it is still a fantastic addition to your repertoire, and you can apply it liberally to anything and everything you wish, especially meatballs, roasted vegetables, or meatloaf! Keep it in a jar in the refrigerator up to one week. Warm up as needed!

Nightshade-Free Tomato-Less Sauce (AIP - Paleo)

Serves: 2 cups
Ingredients
  • 1 can (15-ounce) butternut squash purée (about 1½ cups)
  • 2 medium cooked beets (about ½ pound), roughly chopped
  • 1½ teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1½ teaspoons coconut aminos
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried marjoram
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
Instructions
  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor. Mix until smooth and creamy, about 20 seconds. Check seasoning and adjust salt to taste.
  2. Store in a glass container in the refrigerator and warm as needed before serving.
Notes
Will keep in the refrigerator up to 5 days.

    Hello! Thanks for all of your great recipes. I am finding them really helpful during the strict elimination phase of AIP. I live in Alaska, and don’t seem to be able to source canned sweet potato puree. Would canned pumpkin be a good substitute, do you think, for the nomato sauce?
