No nightshades? No problem! If you thought that the Paleo Autoimmune Protocol was hard, think again! This vibrant Tomato-Less sauce will make you forget about tomatoes and peppers. Does it taste exactly like tomato sauce? No. But it is still a fantastic addition to your repertoire, and you can apply it liberally to anything and everything you wish, especially meatballs, roasted vegetables, or meatloaf! Keep it in a jar in the refrigerator up to one week. Warm up as needed!

Tomato-Less Sauce

- 1 can (15-ounce) butternut squash purée (about 1½ cups)
- 2 medium cooked beets (about ½ pound), roughly chopped
- 1½ teaspoons apple cider vinegar
- 1½ teaspoons coconut aminos
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried marjoram
- 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
- Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor. Mix until smooth and creamy, about 20 seconds. Check seasoning and adjust salt to taste.
- Store in a glass container in the refrigerator and warm as needed before serving.

Hello! Thanks for all of your great recipes. I am finding them really helpful during the strict elimination phase of AIP. I live in Alaska, and don’t seem to be able to source canned sweet potato puree. Would canned pumpkin be a good substitute, do you think, for the nomato sauce?
