Tips for a Simple AIP Halloween

Tips for a Simple AIP Halloween

You know me, I like to keep AIP simple, especially during the holidays! I prefer to spend less time in the kitchen, and more time with family and friends, relaxing and having a good time. This doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy going the extra yard to prepare a little something special to mark the occasion. I guess it’s all about balance. I have compiled in this post some tips for a simple AIP Halloween: a few suggestions for a nourishing Halloween dinner, followed by my top picks for AIP-friendly Halloween treats!

Halloween dinner

Whenever you know you are going to indulge in sweets after dinner, make sure you start with a well-balanced meal to counteract the unavoidable blood sugar spike and the resulting sugar crash. Here are a few kid-friendly suggestions for your Halloween menu!

Appetizer: Lemon-Garlic Hummus with cut vegetables to dip in or Bacon-Wrapped Butternut Squash Bites

Main course: Apple and Sage Elk Meatloaf (you can use beef instead) with Rainbow Roasted Vegetables

Dessert: Pumpkin-Pear Gummies or “Chocolate” Carob Fudge (both recipes are fun and easy to make with kids!).

Halloween AIP treats

You can purchase a few AIP-friendly treats in advance to make Halloween extra special this year. By far, my personal favorites for after-dinner delights come from Sweet Apricity. Sweet Apricity has a great selection of AIP-compliant marshmallows, sea salted caramels and caramel sauce!

Special deal: follow this link and enter code “SpookySquirrel” to get 10% your entire order! This offer is valid until November 5th, 2018.

Tough choice! I wish the pumpkin spice marshmallows were AIP compliant. Suggestion: replace the nutmeg with mace. I think that would do it. So that leaves me between the vanilla marshmallows and the caramel sauce. They might be totally decadent together, on carob coconut ice cream for a sundae? If I have to choose one, it’d be the caramel sauce, which would inspire me to actually try making my own AIP ice cream. Besides, I like making marshmallows…
